I am using Windows XP SP2 with latest updates installed. I am also using Windows Live Messenger 8.1, with Messenger Plus Live! (latest). Why do I see squares on my friend's nicknames instead of symbols (specifically the heart symbol). I see them with no problem on Firefox,Wordpad, Notepad or Microsoft Word 2007, but the heart shape appears as a square on WLM 8.1. Why is this so, and how do I fix it? Thanks.

It appears that your version of WLM is not using the same fontset that your friends are using. Try downloading other fontsets from Microsoft.
